The Dangers of MSG

Being not a very good fan of foods with MSG, it is easy for me to try to reduce MSG intakes. MSG’s real scientific name is Monosodium Glutamate which is an addictive to flavor foods. If you go to oriental store to look for MSG, you will probably see its true form which looks like white crystalline powder and is often mistaken with salts.

If you ever dine at oriental restaurants, most of them decided to employ the use of MSG as food flavor addictive instead of using seaweed extracts like the olden days’ recipes. Obviously, the famous brand name for MSG would be ‘Ajinomoto’ which is a Japanese company that produces MSG for the market. It is commonly used in Asian restaurants but many other restaurants have even adapt to use MSG because not only it adds flavor to the cuisine — but also it is easy to obtain and relatively cheap. MSG is also found in fast foods restaurants and processed foods companies’ products.

However, as expected, MSG is one of the deadliest chemical that one shouldn’t take into his or her body. It is believed that the larger than customary level of intakes can promote asthmatic attacks and hurt your kidney. There are many other diseases related to MSG so the best thing to do is to reduce the intake of MSG. MSG is also sometimes named “Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein” — so becareful when you’re out in the supermarket buying groceries.
